RE: [SEC508] Accessible elections, voting systems and ballot cards

NIST has been developing standards for usability and accessibility for the Election Assistance Commission under the Help America Vote Act.  See Chapter 3 of the VVSG.

The most recent version is at http://vote.nist.gov/vvsg-report.htm

Our public reports and publications have not focused on accessibility so I can’t point you to anything directly.

Subject: [SEC508] Accessible elections, voting systems and ballot cards

Hi all

Greetings from Denmark.

I am looking for national or international studies of accessibility issues relating to the election process, as well as experiences with accessible electronic voting systems and accessible ballot cards. I am especially concerned with the consequences of inaccessibility in terms lack of basic rights (such as the democratic rights to be able to vote) for people with visual and reading impairments.

Your assistance is highly appreciated.

Kind regards

Lars
