important dates in adaptive technology/accessibility

Folks...On another list, folks are compiling important dates in the
history of IT. I raised the evolution of adaptive hardware/software, but
had no firm dates to share. So, if folks here could provide any years for
important milestones in adaptive hardware/software development and/or
accessibility (e.g., first screen reader, first Windows-based screen
reader, first voice recognition software, etc.), I'll pass it along.
