RE: [UACCESS-L] Section 508 compliant maps

Title: Message
Penny, I have not heard of OptiMap.  Could you give us a brief description of what it does?  That might, at least, get a dialog started.  In my opinion, reducing a graphical universe such as a map to verbal descriptions will only work if there are frequently traveled areas that one could describe by discussing how to get from point A to point B.  But, if I had to write a description of the map of the complete campus, I would have difficulty.  One could certainly perhaps do a broad brush approach and talk about the overall shape of the campus, the major buildings and perhaps break these and other elements down into which quadrant they were located.  Beyond that. . .  But, let's keep talking.

Subject: [UACCESS-L] Section 508 compliant maps

Hi

I work for Illinois State University and we are trying to create a section 508 compliant on-line campus map.  I am particularly interested in trying to make the map work with a screen reader like Homepage Reader or JAWS (visual descriptions).  Does anyone have any experience with this type of issue or does anyone have any suggestions?

I heard of a product called OptiMap 5.0, has anyone worked with this software product?

Thanks, Penny Hankins, new listserv member
